Courseware:
Courseware is special software designed to aid in the educational process. Courseware allows students to explore subjects with interactivity that cannot be achieved through worksheets, movies, PowerPoints, Notebook Software, and even webquests. By creating educational software, students can discover new and exciting things, and add their own ideas while collaborating with their peers.

Trivia Hero: Battle of the Brains
Few games are more popular than Rockband and Guitar Hero. These games allow people to become part of a band and play songs on plastic instruments in hopes of becoming legends....or at least the band with the highest score. I attempted to take the look, feel and style of these games and turn it into a standard trivia game. This courseware was designed and created with Notebook 10 software. It includes a readme file for instructions and various pull tabs to guide you through the process. After answering questions students increase their rock level, and in certain cases get to play a rock song. I included side activities or "ENCORES" which serve as bonus reinforcement activities. I left them Social Studies based for examples. The template all also includes three different question templates: multiple choice (Senetos ready), fill-in and auto check.
All you need to do is:
1. Add your questions
2. Add your own music.
ENJOY and ROCK ON!

U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights
This courseware is designed for middle school students that are learning about the United States Constitution. It serves as an interactive way to explore the problems and issues faced by the founding fathers in order to draft a new constitution. Furthermore, they will review and apply the Bill of Rights to today. In addition students will have the opportunity to create their own bill of rights for the classroom. Because of the use of macros students can enter information into the courseware as they go along.
The courseware was created in Microsoft PowerPoint 2007. It is compatible in versions of PowerPoint 2000 or later due to the use of macros.

Teacher Complete Lessons
This page has a few sample lesson plans. I have done all of them with my students. The lesson plans and worksheets are in the Adobe PDF format. They are complete and either provide or list all the tools necessary for instruction
The Korean War: What Would You Do?
This lesson puts students in the hot seat. As a small part of the Cold War, the Korean War is the first real test of containment. The Truman Doctrine, domino theory, and the authority of the United Nations are all put to the test.
Students are given the opportunity to role play. After being briefed on the situation of events in Korea prior to June 24th 1950, students receive an urgent telegram. It informs them that North Korean forces have just invaded South Korea. Students must then take on the role of a Presidential Advisor to Truman. They must apply the concepts they have learned and come up with an action. They must also come up with a possible soviet reaction. After drafting their proposals they will react to what actually happened.
Depending on the level of the students this could work as an individual, collaborative or even a differentiated lesson. Adding a series of Communist documents would expand this lesson further for that type of model.

Andrew Jackson: The Indian Removal Act
This lesson allows to explore the hypocrisy of Jacksonian Democracy. As a case study, students explore the actions of Jackson and the Indian Removal Act.
In a group setting, students will analyze two primary sources on relocation of Native Americans. One document is "Jackson's Speech to Congress" and the other document is the Cherokee's Reaction, "Memorial to the Cherokee Nation."
Students compare the conflicting viewpoints in the context of Jacksonian Democracy. Then students investigate the Supreme Court Case, Worchester v. Georgia. Finally, after debating Jackson's response to the case, students write a reaction/reflection to Jackson's actions.

The Byzantine Empire: The Christian Schism
This lesson uses a pairshare model, analysis of documents, application of vocabulary and critical thinking questions to promote a student-centered learning environment. This lesson could also be modified slightly to incorporate diffientiated instruction. This lesson meets and exceeds NYS standards. This lesson also has a few elements of my "corny" sense of humor.
The "primary" documents were created and written by me and serve as multiple perspectives on the same idea. They also incorporate key vocabulary from this chapter and a few from last chapter that the students should be familiar with.

The Road to World War II
This lesson allows students to use some creative writing techniques while learning about the events leading up to World War II. Each student is given a part to play. Students take on the role of a French, American or British journalist. They must react to five different events before the invasion of Poland.
Students must use their interpretation skills as well as their writing skills to effectively complete the assignment. Parts can be chosen randomly, however I believe it is more effective to assign students different parts based on their ability. Students that enjoy speaking in front of the class are able to shine in this lesson. Lastly, students will grasp the concept of cause and effect and how things happened very quickly.
